Water is the most critical element in Oil & Gas Exploration and Production. The main challenge of water treatment in the upstream sector is to reduce its environmental footprint and develop efficient water treatment solutions for reuse or discharge. Whether it is for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) or chemical EOR, for reuse or discharge, water availability and purity is crucial. The water treatment process has to meet requirements related to the specific characteristics of the site as well as those related to local environmental legislation. For EOR or Injection purposes, water treatment processes differ depending on the external water resource available and on the water quality required by the site e.g., solids, sulfate and salinity. Moreover, the treated water must not cause corrosion or decreased of oil production.
